IEMA EMS Auditing
Envision Environment Means Business

This course aims to equip individuals with a general understanding of the process of auditing an environmental management system. Delegates will learn how to audit or assess the effectiveness of an environmental management system.

They will develop a broad understanding of applicable environmental aspects and impacts, legislation and regulations. They will also explore the role of Environmental Management System auditors and the standards acceptable to 3rd-party certification and similar levels.

The course is accredited by the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment.

Course outline:

  • Summary and update on ISO14001
  • 3rd party audit systems
  • The EMS auditing system
  • Techniques used in identifying environmental aspects / impacts
  • Evaluating significance
  • Environmental legislation
  • Development, management and assessment of objectives and targets
  • Management monitoring, control and abatement
  • Management and prevention of abnormal and emergency situations
  • Internal audit and review

On completion of this course a delegate will:

  • Have an understanding of the EMS auditing process
  • Have knowledge and understanding of environmental management and sustainable development

Duration

  • 40 hours minimum excluding breaks and any examination (normally over a period of 5 days). Time spent on pre-course work does not count towards the course.

Entry requirements

All attendees must be familiar with the text of ISO 14001 (or EMAS in the EU), either by attending an IEMA approved course or through completion of pre-course work designed to ensure this understanding.
